Internship - unpaid
Villa Finale
Villa Finale is seeking college-level Museum Department interns for the summer and fall of 2010. Summer internships will start in June and last through August, and fall internships will start in September and last through December, depending on workload and the intern’s schedule. Ideal candidates are self-starters who have an outgoing personality and work well collaboratively; great organizational abilities; an interest in 19th and 20th century decorative arts and the museum profession. The following positions are available:
Summer Project: Prepare museum rooms for public opening
Villa Finale is currently undergoing restoration and will open to the public in the fall of 2010. All objects and furniture have been packed or wrapped for the duration of the project. Interns will assist in the museum’s post-restoration reassembly, which includes cleaning museum rooms and furniture, unpacking object storage boxes and placing objects in the rooms with strict adherence to pre-restoration photographs. Interns will learn museum object handling and cleaning techniques, object care and basic museum procedures. Interns will also work on the museum’s object data base by updating or improving object records.
Fall Project: Curatorial Assistant
Interns will assist the curator in everyday museum activities, which will include conducting research on decorative arts objects and furniture, organizing collections storage and archival collections, research for upcoming collections-based exhibitions and object care and cleaning. There also will be an opportunity to assist in the installation of a fine art exhibition in the Villa Finale Visitor Center Gallery.
Interns will work primarily with the Manager of Curatorial Resources, but may also work with the Manager of Buildings and Grounds and volunteers.
Please send a letter of interest and resume to Meg Nowack, Manager of Curatorial Resources, at meg_nowack@nthp.org.
Write Museum Department Intern in the subject line and indicate in your letter for which project you are applying.
